Back on the Road

Last night was the first concert of our tour in the Midwest! Being Midwest natives (natives of Wisconsin actually) we are settling in to the tour quickly, and have already seen the smiling faces of many of our relatives.

We set out driving this time, in a Toyota Rav-4 we rented in New York, packed to the brim with instruments, sound equipment, with a little space left for our luggage. We spent our first night in Ann Arbor with old friends before heading to Sturgeon Bay, the site of our first concert.

We were surprised by the chilly weather, especially since the day before we left NYC it was in the upper 80s. I borrowed a few sweaters here from my Mother-in-Law (thank you Paula!) so that I wouldn't be quite so cold. Jonathon and I also made dentist appointments, and were surprised and thrilled that our teeth looked great and we were doing all the right things. Phew! Dodged the bullet there. It would have been tough to have a root canal in the middle of a concert tour :)

We set up in St. Peter's after the dentist, putting together our sound system for it's first real show. It is tough to lug all of the equipment around, but boy does it pay off with quality and control of sound! We're also trying a lot of new things this tour, including more percussion and a few new instruments, as well as a song written by yours truly--the only song I have written. It all went very well, even though we had a few moments of panic.

Tonight we're in Little Chute, and the next day we'll be in Green Bay! Don't forget to tell your Midwest friends that we're on the way.
